Three themes for the summer: health and wellness, programming, and hobbies. At the end of it, I'll come back to this post and see how close I got.
Health and wellness
Physical health
Since getting back into school my physical health has been on a downward trend — no one's fault but mine. I've been making consistent excuses to skip physical activity: diet, water intake, sleep, all neglected. I went from 165lb at the start of 2023 to 187lb by February 2024. The goal is back under 165lb; as of writing this I'm at 176.4lb.
Weight is only one metric of "healthy," though. Two other areas I want to improve are cardiovascular health and my footy grind — running at least once a week (minimum 5km) and playing soccer at least twice a week. Might be ambitious. We'll see.
Mental health
The big one is good, consistent sleep. A solid 8+ hours of uninterrupted sleep has me feeling like a superhero the next day. Sleep is the foundation for the day — a bad foundation makes for a bad day.
Programming goals
Three goals here. First, another hackathon — UofT's Climate Hacks was a blast and I want that environment again. Second, build an end-to-end AI model, either through school or through Spingle. Third, a small project over the summer — shortlist so far is a collision simulator or an NFT-based Tamagotchi.
Hobbies
Short and sweet: get back into creativity. I've been thinking about ways to blend creative ideas with technology and kill two birds with one stone. Other than that, I just need to actually do it.
I also want to write consistently on this site about a variety of topics — constant days of writing code has dulled my writing muscle. And reading five books would be great.
